A deadly road accident on Basanti Highway left one person dead and at least ten others seriously injured after a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck on Sunday afternoon. The tragic incident occurred near Gourdas Para in Kultali, under the jurisdiction of Basanti Police Station.
The deceased has been identified as Baburali Sheikh (62), a resident of Ranigarh area number 2, located under the same police station. He was a passenger on the ill-fated bus that was traveling on the SD 24 route from Alipur to Basanti.
According to local and police sources, the bus collided head-on with a truck in the Choradakatiya area. The impact of the crash was so severe that Baburali died on the spot, while more than ten other passengers suffered serious injuries. The injured were quickly rescued by locals and transported to the Canning Subdistrict Hospital for urgent treatment.
Upon receiving news of the collision, senior police officials including Subdistrict Police Officer Ramkumar Mandal rushed to the site with a large police team. The body of the deceased was recovered and sent for autopsy, while a preliminary probe into the cause of the accident was initiated.
Due to the severity of the crash, the Basanti Highway remained blocked, bringing traffic to a standstill. The police took swift action to clear the wreckage, remove the damaged vehicles from the road, and normalize traffic flow by late afternoon.
